The future of Pennsbury is underway with the groundbreaking for a new $270 million high school in Falls Township. This project, the culmination of years of planning, will replace the existing Pennsbury East and West buildings. The new three-story, 497,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in time for the 2029-30 academic year, accommodating up to 3,000 students.
Superintendent Thomas Smith emphasized the building as more than just bricks and mortar, but a place for discovery and community use. Despite cost concerns from some residents, State Sen. Steve Santarsiero highlighted the necessity of investing in better learning environments, recalling his own teaching experiences in inadequate spaces.
The state-of-the-art school will feature a 1,000-seat auditorium, a media center, athletic facilities including a pool and wrestling room, and multiple courtyards. The district is proposing a 14.6-mill tax increase to finance the project, which is expected to be completed efficiently without being extravagant.
Upon completion, the two current high school buildings and Village Park Elementary will be demolished. The new campus is being constructed on the south side of the current campus. The Pennsbury School District serves approximately 10,000 students across Yardley, Lower Makefield, Falls Township, and Tullytown.
