A 19-year-old BTech student from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) died on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance. The student, who lived alone in a hostel room, alerted a friend who called an ambulance. He was first taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital and later referred to PGIMER, where he succumbed to treatment.
Authorities reported that the student left behind a suicide note expressing struggles with depression and anxiety, and apologizing to his parents. The police are investigating how he obtained the substance.
