The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant transition to digital evaluation for its Class 12 board examinations, commencing with the 2026 exams. This new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system is designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and the overall speed of the grading process.
The introduction of OSM is anticipated to eliminate common errors like totalling mistakes and automate many coordination tasks, reducing the need for manual intervention. A key benefit includes enabling teachers to participate in the evaluation from their own schools, thereby minimizing disruption to their teaching schedules and reducing travel time and associated costs.
Furthermore, this digital approach is expected to foster environmental sustainability and reduce manpower requirements for post-result verification. To ensure a smooth transition, CBSE is directing affiliated schools to prepare necessary infrastructure, including computer labs with adequate connectivity and hardware. Comprehensive support, including training programs and a dedicated call centre, will be provided to teachers and schools.
