OU Grad Assistant on Leave After Essay Dispute

A graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma has been placed on administrative leave after a student filed a discrimination complaint regarding an essay grade. The student's assignment, which discussed gender stereotypes, included biblical references and a rejection of multiple genders, leading to a failing grade from the graduate assistant.

The instructor cited the essay's offensive language, particularly calling a group of people "demonic," and its failure to adhere to empirical psychological methods. Another instructor supported the grade, expressing concern over the student's views on bullying and lack of empathy toward differing opinions.

The University of Oklahoma confirmed that an investigation is underway into allegations of illegal discrimination based on religious beliefs. The graduate assistant, who uses "she/they" pronouns, remains on leave pending the outcome of the probe.
