Summary
- Ofsted investigating Remedicare Education for operating without registration
- Former director Laura Horton jailed for trying to smuggle drugs into prisons
- Horton later became a founding director of Remedicare in 2023

In November 2025, Ofsted, the education watchdog, has launched a criminal investigation into Remedicare Education, a business that provides education to children who have struggled in mainstream schooling. The investigation was prompted after a former director of the company, Laura Horton, was jailed for attempting to smuggle drugs into prisons across the country.
Horton, who was one of Remedicare's founding directors in June 2023, had previously resigned from her job at Broadmoor Secure Hospital following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a patient. Authorities later linked her drug smuggling activities to her time working at the hospital.
Despite Remedicare's claims that Ofsted had agreed children were not at risk, the watchdog is now accusing the company of operating without proper registration as a school, which would have subjected it to greater scrutiny. The parent of a student placed with Remedicare expressed concern over the lack of oversight, saying he was shocked to learn of Horton's criminal past.
