On October 26, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Kota, Rajasthan, where a 24-year-old student from Odisha's Ganjam district was found dead in his hostel room. The victim, Roshan Patra, had been staying in Kota for the past four months to prepare for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) at a reputed coaching institute.
According to Roshan's father, Radha Shyam Patra, he had spoken to his son on the phone on Friday and even had a video call with his mother. Radha Shyam said Roshan had continued studying until midnight after finishing his dinner. However, the next morning, Roshan's cousin, who was also staying in the same hostel, found the door to Roshan's room locked and unresponsive. After informing the hostel staff, they discovered Roshan lying on his bed, with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and Roshan's father, along with a relative, has reached the hostel in Kota. A postmortem examination has been conducted, and the authorities are working to bring Roshan's body back to Ganjam, Odisha.
