30 Oct
Summary
- NYU retains #1 spot in film school rankings
- Savannah College of Art and Design makes substantial jump
- Schools adding new classes on AI and virtual production

The 2025 rankings of the top 50 US film schools, compiled by TheWrap in partnership with data research company Screen Engine/ASI, show that New York University's Tisch School of the Arts has retained its #1 position for the 10th consecutive year. The rankings, which use a data-driven scoring system to evaluate factors like facilities, faculty, and student outcomes, saw 35 of the top 50 schools land within five spots of their 2024 ranking.
Several schools made notable jumps, including the Savannah College of Art and Design, Biola University, and California State University, Northridge. Biola University, in particular, has upgraded its film program with a $58 million donation, the largest in the school's history, allowing it to build new facilities and add courses focused on AI and digital media.
The article also highlights that almost all the schools surveyed reported plans to introduce new classes on AI, reflecting the industry's rapid technological changes. Schools like the University of Southern California, Chapman University, and the American Film Institute are actively exploring how to ethically integrate AI tools into the filmmaking process.
