Navrachana University (NUV) in Vadodara has launched the Tinkerers' Lab, a 24/7 open-access maker space focused on deep-tech skill development through hands-on learning. This initiative aligns with NUV's studio-based engineering pedagogy, offering students a platform for ideation, design, and prototyping.
The lab, established in collaboration with the USA-based Maker Bhavan Foundation, is outfitted with advanced equipment worth ₹38 lakhs. Key features include a 6-axis collaborative robotic arm from Addverb Technologies, multiple 3D printers, a laser cutter, and a CNC milling machine. This integrated facility aims to strengthen student competencies in prototyping, robotics, automation, and design innovation.
University officials and partners, including Mr. Samir Shah of Samrup Trading Pvt. Ltd. and representatives from Maker Bhavan Foundation, attended the inauguration. The Tinkerers' Lab will support academic projects, research, and industry collaborations, with the cobotic arm serving as a crucial tool for the M.Tech in Robotics and Automation program.
NUV, established in 2009, is a private university emphasizing interdisciplinary learning and industry engagement. Maker Bhavan Foundation partners with Indian higher education institutions to establish maker spaces and promote project-based learning to develop engineers capable of creating real-world solutions.
