Health Minister Tightens Rules for New Nursing Colleges
16 Apr
Summary
- Excess nursing colleges lead to unfilled seats in the state.
- Department will only accept government-issued notifications.
- Voluntary proposals for college establishment are now rejected.

The state's health minister, Satya Kumar Yadav, has introduced new directives to address the issue of vacant seats in nursing colleges. An oversupply of these institutions has reportedly led to a surplus of available spots, prompting the government to revise its approval process.
Effective immediately, the health department will exclusively consider proposals that are submitted in direct response to official notifications issued by the government concerning the establishment of new nursing colleges. This policy change moves away from the former system where organizations could voluntarily submit proposals for sanctioning.
Minister Yadav clarified during a recent review meeting that the government will no longer entertain unsolicited or 'suo motu' proposals from any organization seeking to set up a nursing college. This regulatory update aims to better manage the proliferation of nursing educational institutions and ensure alignment with the state's needs.
