NMC Approves More PG Medical Seats for 2025-26
1 Jan
Summary
- National Medical Commission approved additional PG seats for 2025-26.
- Approvals followed appeals from medical colleges against earlier decisions.
- Admissions to these seats should not be delayed by procedural formalities.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) announced on December 31, 2025, that it has approved additional postgraduate medical seats for the 2025-26 academic year. These approvals stem from decisions made by the NMC's First Appeal Committee on December 22 and 23, 2025, addressing challenges from medical colleges against earlier assessments by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
The NMC has directed counselling authorities to expedite admissions, stating they need not wait for formal Letters of Permission (LoPs) from institutions before including these new seats in the counselling process. The LoPs for the newly sanctioned seats are expected to be issued shortly, facilitating a prompt admission cycle for aspiring postgraduate medical students.
These additional seats cover a broad spectrum of medical disciplines, including General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine, across multiple states. The list of approved seats serves as a valid document for counselling, ensuring timely inclusion in the admission process for AY 2025-26.
