The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) at Surathkal, Mangaluru, has inaugurated a significant water disinfection plant. This new facility boasts an installed capacity of one million litres per day, designed to treat raw water sourced from on-campus tube wells and open wells.
The treatment process involves two stages of filtration, followed by chlorination and ozonation. This multi-step purification effectively removes excess iron and various waterborne contaminants, ensuring a safe and reliable water supply. The project was made possible through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by PETRONET MHB Ltd, a subsidiary of ONGC and HPCL.
