NIT Kurukshetra: Awareness Camp Dispute Surfaces
20 May
Summary
- Institute claims no mental health awareness camps were held.
- District health authorities assert a program occurred on February 24.
- RTI query initiated due to recent student suicide cases.

An RTI application filed by activist Vinay Gupta revealed that NIT Kurukshetra's health centre has no record of mental health or suicide prevention awareness camps organized by the state health department. The institute stated that such dedicated sessions have never been held, though it offers three empanelled psychiatrists and one counselor.
Contradicting the institute's claim, district health authorities asserted that an anti-drug awareness program, which included mental health sensitization, was conducted on the campus on February 24. Pictures of this event were shared as evidence. The Director of Mental Health Haryana stated they would investigate the matter.
NIT Kurukshetra's public relations in-charge, who joined recently, was unaware of the February 24 program. He noted the institution has a 'Thought-lab' and promotes sports and yoga for student well-being. The RTI filing was prompted by recent student suicide cases at the institute.
