Last Friday, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Chennai celebrated the graduation of 284 students, all dressed in traditional white attire. The jam-packed Thiruvalluvar auditorium was filled with smiles as the institute reported that over 90% of the students had been placed in various companies.

According to NIFT-Chennai director Divya Sathyan, the remaining students have decided to pursue higher studies. The top packages offered to the graduates ranged between 12 lakh per annum and 21 lakh per annum, with companies such as Dart Design Landmark Group, Babyshop, and Avant Incorp making the offers.

As a send-off, the students had set up 'creator camps' to exhibit and display their handmade creations, including wall posters, ornaments, business cards, embroideries, and bookmarks. A faculty member explained that the idea was to bring a touch of Hollywood to Indian films, connecting their matching elements in a fun exercise. Additionally, 54 students received special awards for their meritorious achievements.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by V Amudhavalli, the Secretary to the handlooms, handicrafts, textile, and khadi department, who stressed the importance of promoting fashion while retaining the country's rich cultural heritage.
