Fanshawe College has unveiled a new, cutting-edge facility focused on enhancing workplace safety through advanced technology. The WSIB Centre of Excellence in Immersive Technologies Simulation for Workplace Safety will leverage extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop innovative training and therapeutic simulations.
These immersive tools are designed to prepare public safety personnel for high-pressure situations. They will also help strengthen decision-making skills and support individuals recovering from mental stress injuries, facilitating their return to work. This initiative is a direct response to the growing crisis of mental stress claims among first responders.
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has committed a significant $20 million investment to this facility. This funding will drive the development of solutions addressing critical challenges faced by the public safety sector. The aim is to mitigate the severe psychological toll experienced by first responders in the line of duty.
