A comprehensive reform is proposed to replace GCSEs, A-levels, and vocational qualifications with a single, new diploma over a ten-year period. This initiative aims to streamline the examination system by significantly reducing the number of exams pupils must take. Coursework will be replaced by a single extended project, with additional measures like oral exams to combat cheating. A new diploma structure will be introduced at four levels: entry, foundation, intermediate, and advanced, allowing students to progress at their own pace. This flexible system includes options for students to select their own course combinations or choose from 20 pre-designed specialized diplomas, thereby strengthening vocational qualifications. A core curriculum including functional skills in maths, ICT, and communication, an extended essay, and wider activities like work experience will be mandatory. Graduates will receive a transcript of their achievements accessible to employers and universities.
