NEET Exam Security Tightened Amidst Misinformation Scare
21 May
Summary
- Minister Pradhan directed swift action against fake Telegram channels.
- Heightened vigilance and foolproof security measures are essential.
- Re-examination for NEET-UG is scheduled for June 21.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan convened a high-level meeting with security and intelligence agencies to bolster preparations for the NEET-UG re-examination. He emphasized the need for stringent action against deceptive Telegram channels disseminating false information about the medical entrance exam. Officials stressed the importance of enhanced vigilance and robust security protocols to ensure the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) is conducted securely and fairly.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA), aimed to proactively identify vulnerabilities and implement timely corrective measures. Concerns were raised about the proliferation of misinformation, particularly through Telegram and anonymous online groups, which often spread fake paper-leak claims and unverified content, causing anxiety among students and parents.
Intelligence inputs suggest coordinated activities through these channels, operated via a limited set of phone numbers. In response, Minister Pradhan ordered a focused crackdown on these networks, including immediate identification, blocking, and removal of channels spreading false propaganda. Social media platforms are urged to cooperate closely with government agencies to swiftly address misinformation and uphold the examination system's integrity. The NEET (UG) 2026 exam, held on May 3, was previously canceled due to alleged paper leaks, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) currently investigating the matter. The re-test is slated for June 21.
