NC Youth Excel at National Forestry Meet

Four Davidson County residents recently showcased their forestry expertise on the national stage, representing North Carolina at the 45th National 4-H Forestry Invitational. The event, held from July 20-23, took place at West Virginia University Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp and Conference Center near Weston.

The North Carolina team, comprised entirely of Davidson County participants, vied against teams from 14 other states. Competitors were tested on a diverse range of forestry-related skills, including tree identification, measurement, compass and pacing techniques, insect and disease identification, topographic map usage, forest evaluation, and written exams.

While Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida earned the top three overall finishes, the invitational provided a significant platform for young forestry enthusiasts. Participants engaged with forestry professionals and peers, gaining practical experience in real-world forestry challenges and fostering leadership and hands-on learning through the 4-H youth development program.
