A grieving mother will be awarded a doctorate and fellowship by her son's university, honoring her resilience and charitable work. Suzanne Richards, from Wednesbury, West Midlands, founded the Smile for Joel charity after her son, Joel Richards, and his grandfather and uncle were killed in a terrorist attack in Sousse, Tunisia, in 2015. Joel was studying to become a teacher at the time of his death.
The Smile for Joel charity has since raised thousands of pounds, providing support to families affected by murder and terrorism, while also working to promote safety abroad. Richards' efforts have previously been recognized with a Pride of Britain award and an MBE in 2023. The University of Worcester highlighted Richards' courage and commitment, stating she has become a cherished member of their community.
