Top Med Student Wins Nine Medals at University Ceremony

Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University celebrated its 38th Convocation, conferring degrees upon more than 50,000 graduands. The distinguished ceremony honored 12,016 medical, 2,569 dental, 3,269 Ayush, and 32,305 students from nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences.
A total of 353 gold, silver, and university medals were presented to 237 exceptional candidates. S. Swetha, an MBBS graduand from Kilpauk Medical College, emerged as a standout achiever, winning nine medals. Additionally, 66 candidates were awarded Ph.D. degrees.
In an inspiring moment, P. Grizelda Evangeline, a cochlear implantee, received a certificate from the Governor for achieving the highest marks in Master of Occupational Therapy. The university also offers various direct courses and has invested ₹16 crore in establishing six regional centers, including simulation labs for nursing and research labs for pharmacy.
Dr. R.K. Dhiman, Director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, addressed the graduates, emphasizing discipline, attitude, consistency, and the art of healing people alongside treating disease. He also highlighted the importance of communication skills in the medical profession.
