Merced College is marking a significant milestone by celebrating 50 years of its "College for Kids" program. This summer initiative provides children with valuable hands-on learning opportunities designed to introduce them to a college environment. The program offers a unique chance for students to explore diverse interests, from music and theater to fashion and science.
Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday, allowing ample time for exploration and skill-building. This year, the program has expanded to include 96 enrichment sections. These courses are open to students entering grades two through eight, with additional aquatics and sports programs for various age groups.
To commemorate its 50th year, organizers are also focusing on accessibility. Twenty-five students received scholarships to attend up to three classes, and there is a goal to increase scholarship opportunities moving forward. This expansion aims to provide college experiences to families who may not have had the chance to visit a campus before, opening new doors for their future.
