Medical Colleges Warned on Strict MBBS Fee Rules
27 Jun
Summary
- Colleges must adhere to fixed MBBS course fees.
- Fees are only for the 4.5-year prescribed duration.
- SC/ST students previously faced illegal fee demands.

The Directorate of Medical Education and Research has issued a critical notification to all self-financing medical and dental colleges, along with private university medical colleges, demanding strict adherence to MBBS course fee regulations.
This directive emphasizes that tuition fees should only be collected for the prescribed 4.5-year academic duration, aligning with a public notice from the National Medical Commission. This follows an earlier communication from the Selection Committee to these private institutions.
Colleges are mandated to follow the fee fixation committee's proceedings from June 12, 2025, and are prohibited from charging any fees beyond those established. This reminder comes after certain institutions in Tamil Nadu were found to be illegally demanding fifth-year internship fees from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students earlier in 2026, despite existing regulations.
