A significant state-level training camp was recently organized in Kokamthan, Ahmednagar, on February 17-18, empowering approximately 4,000 school-going girls. This event was part of the expansive Rani Laxmibai self-defence and life skills training program. The initiative, a collaboration between the school education department and the Maharashtra Primary Education Council, commenced on January 1, 2026.
The program targets girls in classes 6 to 12 and includes training in martial arts, yoga, and physical fitness. Expert trainers, including former military personnel and Grandmaster Shifuji Shaurya Bhardwaj, led intensive sessions focusing on Taekwondo and modern self-defense. The goal is to train 4,000 certified instructors who will subsequently provide training to 22,000 schools across Maharashtra.
School Education Minister Dada Bhuse emphasized that the program is crucial for women's empowerment, self-protection, and building self-confidence. This ambitious initiative seeks to cultivate a future generation of girls who are safer, stronger, and more self-reliant, marking a milestone in their holistic development.
