New Superintendent Tackles Enrollment Slump

Lake County Schools' incoming superintendent, Chad Farnsworth, has outlined his strategic priorities, focusing on addressing declining enrollment and ensuring financial stability. Farnsworth intends to establish an enrollment task force tasked with developing concrete action plans and measurable objectives to reverse the downward trend in student numbers.

Farnsworth acknowledged that staffing adjustments may be necessary in the interim while working to boost enrollment. He stressed the importance of retaining quality staff and remaining competitive in compensation. The district aims to better communicate its diverse offerings, including STEM, arts, and career programs, to attract families away from charter schools, private schools, and homeschooling.

The superintendent's approach is framed as a transition plan, involving phases of listening, learning, data discovery, and strategic planning. This includes visiting all schools, analyzing performance and financial data, and developing a 2027-2030 strategic plan with measurable goals. Farnsworth's tenure is set to begin in December or January, succeeding Diane Kornegay.
