Tegharia Shikshayatan High School, a government-aided institution in Kolkata's VIP area, has officially transitioned to a co-educational English-medium school. State Education Minister Bratya Basu inaugurated the new wing on Saturday. The school will commence its admission process on Monday, targeting 40 students for one section in Class VI.
The school, established in 1948, faced declining student numbers during the pandemic, prompting efforts to introduce an English-medium section. This move aims to provide quality education at a lower cost, fulfilling parents' aspirations for their children to study in English-medium schools. The existing Bengali-medium wing remains operational.
Currently, the school has 10 full-time teachers who will also teach the English-medium students. The education department has assured that additional teachers for the new section will be provided soon. This development aligns with the state's broader effort to enhance infrastructure and increase student enrollment in state-run schools.
