School Building Woes: Court Orders Urgent Decision
18 Jul
Summary
- Court ordered education officer to decide school shifting plea in 10 days.
- School manager sought shifting due to building fitness issues.
- AEO rejected plea citing insufficient classrooms at alternate school.

The Kerala High Court has intervened in a dispute concerning the St Antony's LP School in Alathur, Thrissur, over its building's fitness. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas directed the Assistant Education Officer (AEO) of Mala to make a decision within 10 days regarding the school manager's application.
The manager sought permission to temporarily relocate students to Dr Palppu Memorial UP School, Chakkamparambu, due to concerns about the main school buildings. The AEO had previously rejected this request, citing that Dr Palppu Memorial School had only three classrooms, insufficient for the four classes at St Antony's.
However, the petitioner later informed the court that all Class I students had left the school, obtaining transfer certificates. This change means accommodation is now only required for students in Classes II, III, and IV. The High Court, acknowledging these altered circumstances, has mandated the AEO to review the application.
