Karnataka is set to launch an ambitious mobile biodiversity museum, dubbed 'Western Ghats on Wheels,' to bring the ecologically sensitive rainforest experience directly to schoolchildren. This initiative will tour all 31 districts, focusing on rural areas to educate students about the Western Ghats' rich biodiversity and conservation importance.
The project involves transforming a 15-meter luxury bus into a fully immersive museum. Inside, visitors will find a climate-controlled environment with living terrariums, waterfalls, and representations of shola vegetation. Advanced technologies like holographic displays and augmented reality will showcase endangered fauna, while live camera feeds will offer glimpses of wildlife in their natural habitat.
Designed to navigate narrow roads, the bus will also feature solar panels and IoT-based forest camera feeds, highlighting renewable energy integration. The exterior will be adorned with murals of iconic wildlife. Discussions are underway with Volvo Group India for the bus, with interior and exterior modifications expected within six months through CSR partnerships.
Beyond the mobile museum, the task force is pursuing other conservation efforts. These include proposals for declaring Myristica swamp regions as eco-sensitive zones, developing an inter-state policy for Western Ghats conservation, and launching an official anthem and a 'Treasure Hunt Passbook' initiative in collaboration with UNESCO, WWF-India, and India Post.
