A recent Child Rights Index study places Karnataka at a moderate 10th position among 30 states regarding child rights and well-being. The index, developed by the Institute for Social and Economic Change in collaboration with the KSCPCR, assessed six key dimensions of child welfare.
While the 'Right to Life' dimension showed little variation, indicators like Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) exhibited significant differences across districts. Bengaluru Urban reported crime rates against children seven to eight times higher than other districts, alongside issues of child labor and child marriage.
Educational realization varied, with districts like Yadgir and Kalaburagi showing low levels. Nutritional status also presented concerns, with high anaemia prevalence in Kalyana Karnataka. Despite increased budget allocations, the report suggests greater investment is needed, particularly for backward northern districts.
