School Celebrates Herbal Garden with Unique Vana Puja

The campus of Govt Higher Primary School Nallur in Karkala became the focal point of an unusual ceremony on Monday morning, with a special Vana Puja held at its half-acre herbal garden. This 'Dhanwantari Arogya Vana', established in 2021, now cultivates over 140 species of medicinal plants, serving as a living laboratory for students. Each plant is meticulously tagged with its botanical name, common name, and medicinal uses.

Students, who actively planted and nurtured the saplings, performed Arati and ceremonially draped shawls and flowers around the plants, symbolizing gratitude for nature's sustenance. The initiative, spearheaded by former headmaster Nagesh, aims to foster respect for medicinal plants and biodiversity. The school is recognized for maintaining such an extensive herbal garden and for its innovative educational practices, including an open learning space and a 'water bell' program.
