Jamia Millia Islamia recently marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a significant celebration at the M.A. Ansari Auditorium. Organized by the Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society and its partners, the event championed accessibility, empowerment, and equal opportunities, drawing a diverse audience of professionals and advocates.
The chief guest, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, stressed the moral and social imperative for an inclusive society, underscoring the crucial role of parental support and collective societal effort. He urged attendees to focus on the abilities of individuals with disabilities, celebrating their potential to excel in all spheres of life with the right encouragement.
Performances by students and a symbolic National Anthem in Sign Language marked the ceremony. A highlight was the felicitation of eminent achievers, including para-athletes Tasneem Fatima and Munna Khalid, and inclusion professional Faisal Ashraf Nomani, whose journeys powerfully demonstrated resilience and inspired attendees.
