Jessica Lee, a 17-year-old from Honolulu, has been awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal. This distinguished honor recognizes her dedication to voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and an expedition. Lee completed over 400 hours of volunteer work, significantly contributing to healthcare and older adults, inspired by her grandfather's medical journey in Korea.
Motivated by her experiences, Lee founded the Cancer Health Awareness & Mindfulness Program (CHAMP). This nonprofit works to enhance health literacy through workshops and partnerships, addressing issues like language barriers in healthcare. Beyond her service, Lee is an accomplished athlete, having competed on Punahou's state champion girls golf team since age 4. She also plays the violin and recently explored Boston for a college tour.
Congressman Ed Case presented Lee with her Gold Medal in August, marking her as the seventh recipient from his district in 25 years. Lee's future aspirations include pursuing a career as a physician, focusing on health literacy and patient advocacy. The award signifies her established achievements and provides a foundation for her continued endeavors.
