Volunteers: The Unsung Heroes of Jantar Mantar Protest

The student protests at Jantar Mantar, which concluded on Saturday night, were sustained by a core group of dedicated volunteers. These individuals, many personally affected by issues such as the SSC paper leak in Rajasthan, took on responsibilities without any formal assignment or supervision.

Volunteers managed daily operations, including waste disposal, the distribution of donated food and essential supplies like toiletries and fans. Their commitment was evident as they worked tirelessly, even as the protest site faced challenges like managing approximately 15 tonnes of waste removed on a single Thursday.

During moments of heightened tension, volunteers played a crucial role in maintaining peace. They appealed for calm over loudspeakers, removed debris, and formed human chains to separate protesters from the police. This collective effort ensured the demonstration remained largely peaceful.

Even after the protest officially ended following Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, volunteers remained to ensure a safe dispersal of the crowd and clear the protest site. Many returned to their regular lives, some facing potential job repercussions for their involvement, while others prepared for journeys back home.
