India's Schools Reach Biometric Update Milestone
3 Mar
Summary
- Over 1 lakh schools achieved mandatory biometric updates for students.
- Approximately 1.2 crore school children benefited from the drive.
- Biometric updates are free for children aged 7-15 starting Oct 2025.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has achieved a significant milestone, completing mandatory biometric updates for students in more than 103,000 schools nationwide within six months. This mission-mode drive has positively impacted approximately 1.2 crore school children, allowing them to update their Aadhaar biometrics conveniently on school campuses.
To ensure continued accessibility, the UIDAI will offer mandatory biometric updates for Aadhaar for children aged 7-15 free of charge for a full year, commencing October 1, 2025. Children can complete these updates at schools, Aadhaar enrolment centers, or Aadhaar Seva Kendras. This process is crucial for children as they cross the ages of 5 and 15, as their fingerprints and iris biometrics mature and need to be registered for Aadhaar.
The successful integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application by the Union Department of School Education & Literacy has been instrumental. This technological link enables the identification of children due for updates and facilitates the organization of school-based camps. Currently, around 4,000 machines are deployed for this exercise, with plans to increase their number to expedite the process.
