IITs Revolutionize Learning: AI, Ethics, and Flexible Degrees

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are actively overhauling their academic programs to align with the National Education Policy 2020 and meet evolving technological and business demands. Institutions like IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur are now reviewing and updating their course offerings much more frequently than in the past, moving towards an annual revision cycle to ensure curricula remain dynamic and relevant.

This shift introduces flexible learning models, allowing students multiple entry and exit points throughout their programs. Interdisciplinary tracks such as AI+X, healthtech, and energy transition are being developed, alongside micro-credentials in cutting-edge fields. The focus is on hands-on, project-based learning, with reduced credit burdens and new options like BTech Honours to foster innovation and industry readiness.

Several IITs, including Delhi and BHU, have implemented revamped courses with more outcome-based approaches and team-driven projects. IIT BHU, for instance, now offers certificates and diplomas for early exits. This proactive curriculum revision across the IIT system is crucial for maintaining global competitiveness and equipping students with contemporary skills for the future.
