IIT Won't Relax 12th Marks: JEE Aspirants Face Strict Rules

IIT Roorkee Director Kamal Kishore Pant has firmly stated that there will be no one-time relaxation in Class 12 marks for JEE Advanced 2026 aspirants. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) clarified that admission criteria remain uniform for candidates from all 36 participating educational boards. This decision impacts students awaiting results from CBSE's ongoing re-evaluation process.

Thousands of JEE Advanced 2026 qualifiers are concerned that pending re-evaluation requests might jeopardize their admission chances. Despite these concerns, the JAB emphasized that relaxation is not feasible due to the diverse educational boards involved. They noted that existing rules were announced in December and apply universally.

Director Pant previously advised all JEE Advanced 2026 qualifiers to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling, which began on June 2 and ends on June 11. However, he stressed that final admission is conditional upon meeting all specified eligibility requirements, including the Class 12 percentage criteria.

This year, 56,880 candidates qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2026. They are competing for 18,951 BTech seats across 23 IITs. Admission norms require at least 75% aggregate marks in Class 12, or a top 20 percentile rank, with a relaxation to 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. JoSAA counselling is scheduled to conclude on July 21.
