IGIMS Cancels Exam Over Suspected Malpractices
29 Apr
Summary
- IGIMS canceled a 2025 supplementary MBBS exam due to alleged malpractices.
- An internal committee investigated after an anonymous mail raised concerns.
- Showcause notices were issued to students and functionaries involved.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna has canceled a supplementary MBBS examination that took place in December 2025. This decision follows an internal committee's findings suggesting malpractices in the exam's conduct.
The cancellation was prompted by an anonymous email sent in March to the National Medical Council (NMC), which raised concerns about the examination. IGIMS then established a four-member internal probe committee, led by the dean of academics, to investigate the allegations.
Dr. Bibhuti P Sinha, IGIMS deputy director, confirmed the cancellation, stating that showcause notices have been issued to both students and functionaries involved. While anonymous emails are not typically entertained, some allegations were substantiated by the committee's report, alongside internal red flags.
One IGIMS doctor, speaking anonymously, suggested that this incident might be indicative of larger issues within the institution's administrative oversight of examinations.
