In Hubballi, a significant initiative is underway to improve facilities for young learners. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has decided to allot sites within public gardens for 54 Anganwadis, a move that will benefit over 1,350 children. This decision addresses the critical issue of many Anganwadis functioning from rented buildings, often in inadequate or unstable conditions.
Currently, 304 out of 494 Anganwadis in the twin cities operate from rented spaces like community halls, semi-government buildings, and private properties. This often leads to frequent shifts due to rental period expirations, causing disruption for children and parents. The new plan aims to provide stable, well-equipped environments.
These garden sites will offer enhanced infrastructure and adequate play space. Additionally, plans are in motion to potentially include gym facilities for neighborhood children during specific hours. This multi-departmental effort is seen as a positive step towards enhancing basic amenities for children in the twin city.
The women and child development department has been pursuing this for years, and the recent positive response from HDMC marks a significant breakthrough. The provision of allocating 5% of garden space for public utilization is being employed to facilitate this change, with zonal commissioners empowered to issue necessary No Objection Certificates.
