A significant National Conclave on Communication in Healthcare convened recently, drawing over 1,500 delegates from more than 15 leading institutions. Organized by Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) in partnership with the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the event highlighted communication's essential function in contemporary healthcare.
Chancellor N.M. Veeraiyan emphasized that communication is a powerful clinical tool directly influencing patient results, advocating for its integration into medical education. Abhijat C. Sheth from the National Medical Commission (NMC) echoed these sentiments, stressing the link between communication skills and patient outcomes.
Discussions also addressed crucial aspects like empathy in patient care, breaking bad news effectively, and non-verbal communication strategies. The conclave particularly focused on preventing violence against healthcare professionals and enhancing workplace safety through structured communication, reinforcing its importance for patient safety and trust.
