More than 4,000 individuals participated in an annual 5-kilometer race on Saturday, marking the largest turnout in the event's 19-year history. This race, organized by the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance, aims to provide financial scholarships for students pursuing education at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The event successfully raised approximately $150,000, with a portion of the funds, up to $12,000, allocated for books and essential school expenses for the upcoming fall semester. The race concluded with a health fair held at Piedmont Park, promoting wellness within the community.
Atlanta serves as a significant hub for HBCUs, hosting the Atlanta University Center, which includes Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Yolanda Page, president of Stillman College in Alabama, had the honor of firing the starting pistol, highlighting the importance of educational access for all.
