In a notable shift, girls have secured a commanding majority of admissions in government and private medical colleges affiliated with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that female students accounted for 60.72% of this year's MBBS intake, a significant rise from previous academic sessions.
This year's figures show a 3.66% increase in female admissions compared to the 2024-25 academic year, highlighting a progressive change in societal attitudes towards women's higher education and career aspirations in medicine. The Minister emphasized that these statistics reflect a positive evolution in parental outlook regarding their daughters' professional futures.
For the 2025-26 academic year, a total of 6,430 MBBS seats were offered. Under the convener quota, 2,617 seats were allocated to girls and 1,638 to boys. Similarly, in the management quota, girls secured 1,287 seats while boys were admitted to 888, further underscoring the strong female presence in medical education.
