The 127th birth anniversary of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was observed with widespread celebrations throughout Kodagu district on Wednesday. The district administration organized a key ceremony at the Field Marshal Cariappa Statue Circle in Madikeri, featuring a march past by students and NCC cadets. Dignitaries and ex-servicemen paid homage at the statue, with former minister MC Nanaiah emphasizing Cariappa's life as an inspiration for the youth.
A separate ceremony was held at 'Roshanara', the Field Marshal's Madikeri residence. His son, Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa (retd), paid floral tributes and stressed the importance of national priority. He also advised caution regarding AI-driven information and encouraged prioritizing national service in career choices. Cariappa's daughter, Nalini Cariappa, also attended the event.
Numerous towns within the district, including Virajpet, Somwarpet, and Hudikeri, also hosted events. Students from various institutions, such as Sainik School and Cauvery College, participated in paying respects. At Shanivarsanthe, Cariappa's birthplace, the FMKM Cariappa Club organized a tribute at the Cariappa Memorial Library, further commemorating the Field Marshal's enduring legacy.
