- NESTS issued strict health and hygiene guidelines for school hostels.

Isolated cases of suspected food poisoning and infections have surfaced in some Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), prompting authorities to reinforce safety measures. The Minister of State for Tribal Affairs confirmed these reports in the Lok Sabha, stating that affected students received necessary medical attention and corrective actions were implemented by school administrations.
The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) has responded by issuing stringent circulars and guidelines to all EMRS. These focus on maintaining high standards of health, hygiene, and safety within hostels and mess facilities.
Key directives include detailed mess management protocols for hygienic food preparation and safe storage. NESTS also mandates the engagement of staff nurses and counselors in each EMRS for regular health monitoring and psychosocial support. Furthermore, a part-time doctor position is now required for periodic medical check-ups, and school vehicles will be available for emergency transportation to health facilities.
