Dumfries High School, which first opened its doors in 1961, is scheduled for demolition to make way for a new educational institution. As the building's end nears, staff are organizing a special farewell tour for the public. This event has proven exceptionally popular, with 1,000 former pupils and staff booking slots to revisit the school.
The school, which was described as state-of-the-art in 1961, will be completely demolished and the land landscaped after the new school behind the current site is ready for occupancy in May 2026. The farewell tour allows attendees to explore the hallways and view a special exhibition showcasing the school's history and its students, including early photographs of superstar DJ Calvin Harris.
Head teacher Phil Cubbon expressed his delight at the public's response, noting that all initial 800 tickets sold out within three days, prompting the release of an additional 200. This Saturday marks the final opportunity for many to experience the 65-year-old secondary school before its demolition begins.
