Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has mandated improvements in hygiene and infrastructure within Delhi's government schools, emphasizing the health and well-being of girl students. This directive was issued during a virtual meeting addressing menstrual hygiene on Thursday, May 29, 2026. The Chief Minister stressed the prompt repair of damaged school facilities, including broken doors, utilizing school funds or official coordination.
A significant initiative, the 'Menstrual Health Matters' campaign, will be launched to guarantee the regular maintenance and timely refilling of sanitary pad vending machines. These machines are installed in government schools, offices, public toilets, and Arogya Mandirs, ensuring consistent access to high-quality, biodegradable sanitary pads for girls across Delhi.
Furthermore, comprehensive awareness programs will be conducted by ASHA and anganwadi workers to educate girls and their families on menstrual health. Menstrual health education for students in Classes 6 to 9 will be strengthened. Principals were also tasked with informing parents about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and obtaining consent for its free administration to protect girls against cervical cancer. Following summer vacations, girl students will receive free bicycles.
