Delhi Internships: Aid Elderly & Disabled

Students can now intern at Delhi Government-run facilities dedicated to the elderly and persons with disabilities. The Department of Social Welfare has established comprehensive guidelines to bridge classroom learning with practical engagement, focusing on the needs of vulnerable community members. This internship program is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students in fields such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Law, and Special Education, provided they are in their second or fourth semester.

The program offers two distinct pathways. The field-based internship involves direct interaction with residents, supporting their daily activities and rehabilitation. Alternatively, the research internship allows students to evaluate welfare schemes and institutional services, contributing to data collection and research efforts. To safeguard residents' privacy and dignity, a strict code of conduct will be enforced, prohibiting unauthorized photography and dissemination of personal information.

Selected interns may be assigned to facilities like Asha Kiran in Rohini or various old-age homes and hostels. Their duties will include assisting senior citizens and persons with disabilities, supporting counselling sessions, observing behavioural changes, and aiding in record maintenance. While the internship is offered without fees, participants will not receive a stipend or honorarium. Applications can be submitted directly or through colleges, with final selection by the Head of the Department of Social Welfare.
