Delhi Model School Crumbles: A Facade of Neglect
15 May
Summary
- Dilapidated blocks and inadequate CWSN infrastructure found.
- Zero girls' toilets contrast with overwhelming female student majority.
- Fire safety gaps and insufficient drinking water outlets reported.

A CM SHRI school in Northwest Delhi's Daryapur Kalan, designated as a model institution, is in a state of severe disrepair. Internal audits reveal dilapidated building blocks, inadequate infrastructure for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), and significant fire safety concerns. The school struggles with basic amenities, notably having only five drinking water outlets for its 1,194 students.
The audit highlighted a critical deficit in sanitation, reporting zero girls' urinals despite girls comprising over 1,100 students. Similarly, CWSN facilities are severely lacking. The report recommends immediate corrective actions, including repair, rehabilitation, or demolition of structurally unsound blocks, alongside addressing issues like damp patches and efflorescence in even supposedly sound structures.
This situation surfaces amid a broader review of Delhi's government school infrastructure. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has initiated a citywide structural review, acknowledging that nearly 700 schools might require redevelopment due to their age and dilapidated condition. CM SHRI schools, launched to provide modern facilities and advanced teaching, are intended to promote excellence and equity in public education.
