Postgrad Admissions Shift to Central Committee
29 Sep
Summary
- Postgraduate medical admissions now managed by MCC.
- College granted deemed university status by Union ministry.
- MBBS, BDS, MDS admissions continue via state CET.
SMBT Medical College in Igatpuri has been granted deemed university status by the Union ministry of education, marking a notable shift in its operational framework. Consequently, the college's postgraduate medical admissions for the current year will be managed by the Centre's Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), a change from previous procedures.
Undergraduate admissions for MBBS, BDS, MDS, B.Sc. nursing, and M.Sc. nursing will proceed via the state's CET cell. Students enrolled in these programs will remain affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, with examinations conducted by the state university.
However, programs such as MD/MS, DM/M.Ch., B.Pharm, M.Pharm, physiotherapy, and ayurveda will be offered under the new deemed-to-be university status commencing this year. The college has indicated that detailed information on eligibility, fees, registration, and counseling will be released shortly. Courses like D.Pharm, BDS, and MDS are not part of the deemed university structure and will follow existing admission processes. This move is part of a trend where three private colleges have sought to operate independently of state regulations by changing their university status.
