The recognition stems from DML's successful Reading Railroad Initiative. This program is dedicated to nurturing a lifelong passion for reading and learning, with a focused commitment to supporting Black boys, men, and their crucial support networks. DML aims for this initiative to serve as an international model for enhancing literary engagement for all children and families.
The ULC's Innovation Initiative showcases projects from nearly 200 member libraries annually, highlighting their evolving roles. The Reading Railroad was selected by a panel of judges in the Education: Children and Adults category for its distinctiveness and demonstrated success, offering a replicable framework for other libraries nationwide.
