Furness College, situated in Barrow, is a significant employer with nearly 300 staff and educates approximately 900 full-time students and over 300 apprentices. The college had previously been directed to improve its performance by Ofsted, but a recent inspection indicated "reasonable progress."
B&FC serves over 13,000 students across its various campuses. A merged entity is expected to expand the range of courses available, enhance access to specialized resources, and foster stronger relationships with businesses. The governing bodies will carefully consider all feedback received during the consultation period before any final decisions are made, with outcomes anticipated around two months after the consultation closes.
