The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to launch mandatory Composite Skill Labs in all its affiliated schools by August 22, 2027. This initiative is designed to promote hands-on, experiential learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
Schools will be required to establish these labs, either as a single 600-square-foot facility or two separate labs of 400 square feet each. The curriculum within these labs will cover skill and vocational subjects across three broad areas: life forms, machines and materials, and human services.
With emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and FinTech predicted to significantly transform job markets by 2030, CBSE is encouraging schools to integrate AI literacy and technology-driven learning. This includes utilizing existing labs and providing students access to AI tools to foster innovation and entrepreneurial skills.
