HC Relief for 600+ Pune Engineering Students
25 May
Summary
- Over 600 Pune University engineering students received interim relief.
- Students can now appear for exams if previous semesters are clear.
- Court cited similar relief granted to other engineering students.

The Bombay high court's vacation bench has provided interim relief to more than 600 engineering students affiliated with Pune University. The court has allowed these students to appear for their examinations, scheduled to commence on May 27, provided they can satisfactorily demonstrate that they have cleared all prior semesters without any pending backlogs.
This judicial intervention follows a similar order last week, where the high court directed Savitribai Phule Pune University to permit 771 students from its affiliated engineering colleges in Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik to participate in third and fourth-year exams starting May 20. Justice Shyam Chandak expressed concern over students approaching the high court at the last minute, highlighting the chaotic situations such actions can create and urging for greater responsibility.
The court's permission is conditional, requiring students to satisfy the university of their cleared backlogs for the first and second years, aligning with the conditions stipulated in an August 2025 university circular. The bench clarified that this relief is subject to the university's satisfaction regarding the students' academic standing.
